"It was 3pm on Labour day, the restaurant wasn't busy, but a few tables in the air-conditioned section were occupied. Ordering is digital via QR code and payment via PayNow, so basically no interaction with the staff. While I looked through Google Maps reviews for inspirations on the dishes to order, I realised numerous 5⭐ ratings from reviewers with 1 or few reviews, and very superficial comments - so i had my expectations managed. Firstly, the wait was pretty long for non peak hours, and the BBQ (skewers and 馒头) came first but were served luke warm. The rest of the dishes came in stages with 酸菜鱼 being the last. The 土豆丝 was too garlicky for my liking, 干煸四季豆 was ok, 辣子鸡 was also decent, but no comparison to those at People's Park food centre or options at Geylang. 酸菜鱼 uses dory fish and it was super tenderised, the soup/ flavour was distinct in its own way, but not meant to be a compliment (but won't say it's horrid). As a family, we've been to China many times, so we know what good tastes like. Maybe 2⭐ is a tad harsh, but 3⭐ means to me that I'll come back some day (but I'll rather drive to Chinatown or Geylang for my 川菜 fix."

"First time here, decided to give this place a try, and definitely will not the last time. Will come back and have already spread words among friends for the yummy food, family friendly atmosphere, and excellent service! The spring fried chicken is juicy, bbq ribs is soft and tasty, margerita pizza has right amount of cheese (cheesy and yummy), portion even for the free kids fish & chips is big omg (check out pics). Very surprised yet impressed! We love their latte (hot/cold) as well! Keep up the good standard! 👏🏻☺️👍🏻. Such a relaxing and enjoyable family lunch we had there!"

"I visited this outlet for the first time and was glad I chose it over the more crowded Anchorvale branch. Coming from Punggol, I was happy to find a cozy spot for lunch with family. The place is small but charming, and the prices are affordable. Staff auntie Peggy was particularly friendly, embodying the kind of warm welcome that F&B establishments should strive for. However, there was a moment when she asked about the pronunciation of Christmas in Japanese, and while I politely responded, I felt she overstepped by expecting me to look it up and share it with her. I was in the middle of a conversation with my family, and it felt a bit intrusive. (just a feedback, not complain, she’s still awesome 😅) Nonetheless, it was a minor moment in an otherwise enjoyable experience. Overall, I had a good time and would recommend this place."

"Food is nice! We had the tofunagi don and avocado maki Tofunagi is crispy at the outside and soft at the inside, generous amount of sauce Avocado maki is nice overall but nothing stands out to make it special Here on a weekday, no q but the place is full house and we got the last available table Will definitely come back again"

"Just had lunch at Sanook in Kovan. The food is okay, service is fine — nothing extraordinary but no issues. What stood out was how thoughtful the staff were with our toddler. They noticed we had a young child, so they automatically prepared a baby chair and kids' cutlery without us asking. They also made sure to serve the hot dishes away from where our kid was sitting. Really appreciated that sensitivity. Ordering is via QR code, payment at the counter. Overall a good family-friendly option if you're in the area."

"Nice neighbourhood Putien restaurant for a leisurely lunch. Visited on a Saturday morning and we were the first customers. Only dim sum menu available before 11am, main menu available afterwards. The steamed dim sum are generally good except the xiao long bao that are visibily frozen. Fried carrot cake and char siew chee cheong fun had very small portions (see photos), I would suggest to skip them. Staff was fine and let us order a lor mee before 11am. Lor mee is great and came on a claypot to keep warm. We enjoyed the seafoody broth, with fresh veggies and a variety of toppings."

"Yu Pavilion at Heartland Mall doesn’t look like much from the mall corridor, but once you step inside, it feels like a cosy spot for solid Chinese food with a twist. It’s especially notable for its Hakka rice wine chicken, a traditional dish you don’t see often in local restaurants — tender chicken in a richly aromatic, sweet-tangy rice wine broth that’s perfect with plain rice and leaves you wanting more. The tasting experience also highlighted creative rice wine-infused dishes, from smoked duck with tangy sauce to fresh prawn dressed with mayo and rice wine — each showing off different depths of flavour and that unique rice wine character. Beyond that, casual diners mention the restaurant’s dim sum and Chinese mains like sweet-and-sour pork and crispy fish tail as crowd favourites, and the vibe is relaxed and unpretentious — great for neighbourhood meals or catch-ups after the MRT ride from Kovan station. "Five stars for the great value—this mixed rice stall offers decent taste at a price that’s cheaper than most similar stalls in Singapore. We ordered three packets of rice with dishes and eight chicken wings, and the total came to less than $16. I’ve dined here before, but chose takeaway this time due to the hot weather and the consistently long queues during peak hours (lunch and dinner). Despite the crowd, the staff remained approachable and friendly while serving our order."

"14Feb2026 We pre-ordered the set. We paid a deposit to reserve the CNY reunion dinner. We were surprised that they did not know about the pre-order. As we waited for the food, other guests seemed to get their food first. But after that, the food came pretty fast. The portion was big or maybe we were small eaters so we got to tabao some home. The food is okay except for some. The steamed chicken with ginger was the best😀"

"10 May 2026 update: The quality of the San Chan Bak has dropped! It is now the mass market frozen pack type that is used by so many stalls. Earlier on, the 3-layer pork pieces were fatty and nicely stewed with the rest of the spare parts. Now it is the tough, dense, healthier choice nonsense. Ref photo comparison. We have been coming here for years. Disappointed with this turn of events. Hopefully someone sees this an reverts to HappierChoice meat instead of the commercial kitchen stuff. Dropped from 5 stars to 4 stars. To be fair, the kway is still very good (stretchy texture) and the large intestines are well done. Not sure why they would sacrifice the san chan bak like this; it just spoils the whole experience. --Earlier Review-- (we did like this place very much) Definitely one of the better Kway Chap + Braised duck places around. Kway is still nice and stretchy (instead of crumbly). Texture of the pig skin is also at the right balance between fall-to-bits jelly and hard rubber. They also have duck gizzard done well. Again, not hard rubber but nicely chewy (and not stinky). Good sized portions relative to price too. And to top it off, they have good chilli. Both the hae bee hiam type for the duck and the vinegar-ish type for the rest of the "spare parts"."

"A homely dining experience with excellent taste and flavour throughout. The pork chop was well seasoned and exceptionally tender. The chicken and portobello in red wine were perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside yet tender inside. The lamb chop was also well prepared and impressively tender. The fish and chips were nicely fried and very enjoyable. Overall, the meal was extremely satisfying, and we left with very happy bellies. Highly recommended and absolutely worth the travel"

"One of our preferred places to go for porridge. The porridge is very smooth, and the fritters are always well-fried and go perfectly with it. I always order the fish congee, which has a lighter taste. The fish slices are well-marinated and not fishy at all. I also like the ginger flavor in the soup. My family usually orders the pork congee, which is more flavorful compared to the fish porridge. For those who prefer a stronger taste, you can add soy sauce yourself (available when dining in). During peak periods, you may have to wait up to 25–30 minutes for your order to be ready, even for takeaway orders."
