"I recently completed the 2 days SS638 and SS650 electrical standards course, and it was an excellent and insightful experience that deepened my understanding of Singapore’s electricity acts & regulations as well as electrical installation requirements. The course provided a structured comparison between SS638 (permanent installations) and SS650 Part 1 & Part 2 (temporary installations), explaining how both codes align with EMA’s regulations and differ in areas such as earthing, protection, inspection, and safety control. Key topics covered included: • Design principles for LV installations under SS638 • Cable sizing, protective devices requirements, and fault current calculations • TT & TNS Earthing systems and bonding practices under different environments • Temporary supply setup requirements (SS650 Part 1 & 2) — such as generator connections, portable distribution boards, and site protection measures • Common site non-compliances and how to rectify them during inspection The trainers are highly experienced in knowledgeable in their respective fields which made the lessons realistic and practical. Real-world examples of site conditions and testing were shared, helping participants understand how to apply the standards effectively. Overall, the course was very relevant, well-paced, and up to date with the latest requirements which helps me to strengthen my understanding and contributed to my personal advancement. I would highly recommend it to anyone involved in electrical installation, maintenance, or LEW licensing."
