I recently completed the 2 days SS638 and SS650 electrical standards course, and it was an excellent and insightful experience that deepened my understanding of Singapore’s electricity acts & regulations as well as electrical installation requirements. The course provided a structured comparison between SS638 (permanent installations) and SS650 Part 1 & Part 2 (temporary installations), explaining how both codes align with EMA’s regulations and differ in areas such as earthing, protection, inspection, and safety control. Key topics covered included: • Design principles for LV installations under SS638 • Cable sizing, protective devices requirements, and fault current calculations • TT & TNS Earthing systems and bonding practices under different environments • Temporary supply setup requirements (SS650 Part 1 & 2) — such as generator connections, portable distribution boards, and site protection measures • Common site non-compliances and how to rectify them during inspection The trainers are highly experienced in knowledgeable in their respective fields which made the lessons realistic and practical. Real-world examples of site conditions and testing were shared, helping participants understand how to apply the standards effectively. Overall, the course was very relevant, well-paced, and up to date with the latest requirements which helps me to strengthen my understanding and contributed to my personal advancement. I would highly recommend it to anyone involved in electrical installation, maintenance, or LEW licensing.
I have gained a very clear understanding of electrical design, including the selection of cables, MCBs, MCCBs, CPC sizing, and fault current calculations. This two-day course has been very beneficial for me, as it provided comprehensive knowledge of low-voltage electrical design. I also learned about generator load design and electric motor load design. Additionally, the training helped me understand how to use SS638 tables effectively and ensure compliance with the relevant standards. I strongly recommend this course to anyone working in the electrical field, including electricians, supervisors, engineers, and managers. Attending this course provides excellent learning for electrical design work and helps improve both practical understanding and compliance with standards.
I attended the Electrical Installation Design (Low Voltage) course at EETI, and it provided a solid foundation in both theory and practical application. The course covers essential topics like cable sizing, load calculation, protection systems, and earthing, all aligned with Singapore’s Electricity Act and local standards. What I found most useful was the focus on real-world installation practices and compliance requirements, which are critical for anyone working in the electrical field in Singapore. The materials are structured and easy to follow, making it suitable for both beginners and those upgrading their knowledge. Overall, a valuable course for anyone looking to strengthen their understanding of low voltage electrical design and safety regulations.
I found the course well-structured and informative. The instructor explained concepts clearly, and the practical exercises helped reinforce learning. The course materials were useful and easy to follow.
Er. Murugaiah Selvam is an exceptional and patient trainer, possessing extensive technical knowledge and experience that he readily shares. I have acquired a significant amount of new information from him, and his contributions have greatly enhanced my interest in this SS555 course. I highly recommend him.
