The Grumpy Bear (Thomson Plaza)

Had a pleasant dinner at The Grumpy Bear. The place is small and cozy with a relaxing ambience, good for a casual meal. The set meal prices are quite reasonable and service was good throughout the visit. The salmon was decent, though I expected the skin to be crispier. Portion size was slightly smaller than expected, but considering the price point, it’s still fair value. The truffle chicken smelled really good when served, but the truffle taste itself was quite mild. Overall still an enjoyable and comfortable dining experience.

Pleasantly surprised by their food. Fish and chips was awesome, crispy and flaky inside with real fish. Chicken was decent but just like any other. Orange sauce was unique and strong flavour. Snack platter was normal, but rly enjoyed the unique thai sauce that came with it. Mushroom soup was also real, genuinely blended mushroom. Disappointed at the dessert, icecream tho big scoop taste slightly artificial. Waffle smells good, but not much taste to it and is not hot. Their hot chocolate is good, also sprakling yuzu. Set for 39.90 was worth.

My initial patronage was a truly pleasant experience. I am impressed by the professionalism and attentiveness of the well-trained staff, especially Mr. Aaron, Chef Hin, and their serving team. Although I did not post a review after my first visit, I was eager to return and sample more of their offerings. During my second visit, I finally shared my thoughts after relishing additional dishes. One standout was the Mushroom Pesto Pasta. This new dish features al dente spaghetti tossed with sautéed sliced mushrooms and minced garlic, complemented by a generous amount of finely chopped fresh basil and subtly salted by cheese. Presented elegantly in a wide-rimmed white pasta bowl, it delivers a harmonious blend of earthy and herbal flavors that delight the palate. A notable bonus is that it tastes equally delightful even when served cold. Equally impressive was the Mentaiko Grilled Salmon Set. The salmon fillet, grilled with the skin on to achieve a satisfying crispness, is generously topped with a creamy zigzag of mentaiko mayo sauce, imparting rich umami notes in every bite. Accompanied by crispy potato wedges and a fresh garden salad composed of frisée lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and a light dressing, this set offers a well-balanced and satisfying meal. Overall, I am indeed impressed by their hospitality. My continued visits have confirmed the exceptional quality and variety of this restaurant’s menu, and I look forward to exploring more of their dishes.

Had such a wonderful and lovely V-day celebration. Food was pretty good and the service was great. Staff was attentive, decoration was beautiful and the music selection was intentional for V-day! Kudos to the staff who made our V-day such a special one.

Ordered bear spiced crispy chicken, changed fries to mash potato. For $21.46, with GRAB 30% off it cost $15.02. Chicken: great Mash potato: excellent Salad: average Amount for money: poor Chicken was well spiced which gives it somewhat of a unique taste. Thai-ish chili provided also gave it an acidic dimension if you so desire. You can also dip it on the mash potato which i find myself doing it rather frequently. Chicken was also tender and juicy. Mash potato was very buttery which gave it a savoury note. Smoothness wise it was good but i have tasted better so that is a room for improvement. Salad is well uncooked and maybe also undressed? Not much to say besides typical. Amount wise even with the discount it was not alot. Filling wise reasonable but this part is amount not value for money. Even value for money wise i would say it is just okay. And depend on which dish you order. I had a bite of the cajun chicken that she ordered, it was very average. Definitely something you can get for less than 10.
