Great wee find in Queenstown. I used First Table for the first time and managed to get a 6pm booking. Its a super popular restaurant so pays to book early and so glad we did. The restaurant is located downstairs under the cocktail bar Cow Lane. Its a nice and quiet place even had a real fire! Only First Table option was the 5 course degustation menu and it didnt disappoint. Service was great, waitresses really knew about the food and explained every dish. Taste was as good as the presentation, my fave was the blue cod cooked in such a different way. Definitely one to add to the list in Queenstown.
The location itself is amazing. Service is nice, but has little to no knowledge about the food and wine, they bring to your table. We had the 8 course Menu. The food was well presented. The first two dishes were completely bland (except a piece of beetroot in the second course). The third course was killed by an hollandaise, that just tasted like lemon an eliminated any taste of the rest of the dish. The paua filling of the tortellini was nice if you left out the hollandaise. The lamb had all the salt, and some more, that the first two courses were missing. The deserts were ok, but nothing special. When I critizied the food, the feedback was completely ignored.
Great service, food comparable to Michelin star restaurants. Venison as part of the amuse bouche was great, I loved the kingfish with pear. The palate cleanser sorbet was good. The lamb was perfectly cooked and tasty.
A hotspot for all generations. This place was recommended to us by people in the industry, and it did not disappoint. The food was excellent genuinely so good that we’d highly recommend it to anyone we know. The spirits selection isn’t huge, but the cocktail creations are great. There’s also a cocktail bar upstairs if you’re after a more extensive drinks list.
Seriously best food I’ve had in awhile. Had venison tartare amuse buse, Wagyu tongue, venison w morcilla and banana desert… every mouth was perfect. Topped with a nice wine and the warmth and smell of a wood fire. Thank you!!
