The Blackbird

Located inside Gillman Barracks, Blackbird is a proper bar with great selection of wine, beer and cocktails. The food is definitely 100% top-notched, with the classic fries and nachos done so well, in generous servings that would feed 3 or even 4 easily, with even more generous servings of bacon bits, cheese and cheese sauces. The fish with baked potatoes are well done as well, with the fish being lightly seasoned and pan-fried to skin crispy perfection; eat it while its hot! The drinks are definitely spot on as well, with the bartenders able to customize your drinks to your liking easily eg. switch out the Hendricks for any other that you'll love, or even switch it up to a Mezcal. Drinks' prices are a tad on the high side, but the whole atmosphere with their kickass DJ + live bands like Supernova, its definitely worth a good night here! Cheers!

Great food and fantastic bands! The Cod Fish and Chips was particularly enjoyable, and the constant drink (beer) promos help to stave off some of the heat from your pockets. Do opt to sit outdoors if you want to chit-chat with your mates, as the music/band-playing volume will overpower most conversations indoors.

We came to Blackbird with low expectations as we are regulars from Simply Retro at CHIJMES. The bar in Blackbird is plain with minimal to no disco lightings. The band is fantastic with their music and their rapport with the crowd. Band stage is located in a prominent area but the stage lightings can be improved further. The DJ who played last night (20 Feb 26) is fabulous! (even though his console is hidden in one corner beside a pillar). It should be in a more prominent area. He is by far the best retro DJ and in my opinion much better than the retro DJs from Simply Retro CHIJMES and Retroholics Funan. Do explore a special retro night once a month to bring back the fun times. The whole place is packed like sardines and we had a great time. Great vibes and energy in a small place out of town. Love the open 'private' carpark just outside. Keep the same band (and the same DJ) and we will be back more often on Friday nights.

Our to go place for the past 2+ years! Great live bands, staff who make us feel at home and a very friendly (and handsome 😛) owner who supports the local band scene! Fun regular hangout joint with zero drama.

Amazing food, good drinks, the live band 17FIFTY was amazing!!! Rocked the house down, will definitely be coming back again for more live music if they're playing again! 🔥
