Tamako meal. What more is there to say. It's a small family run (i think) business in the outskirts of thompson, near lower pierce reservoir. They serve simple japanese comfort food that feels and tastes homemade - just like how obachan made it back in the day. I went on a Sunday at 7pm, and it wasnt crowded. The atmosphere is quiet and inviting, it was clean. We ordered 2 mains, Unatama Don, which is unagi and egg on rice, with a flavourful broth and onions. I'd give it 10/10 for comfort and taste, but the unagi couldve been of a higher quality; for the price, its acceptable. We also got the Tamako Bento set - Shio Saba. At $16 i think its worth every cent. Comes with ebi tempura, chicken kaarage, potato salado, some kind of braised potato and carrot, and gyoza, with rice. All the components were cooked beautifully and well seasoned. I dont know what you want me to tell you man. Its just a nice hearty meal. Additional notes: They have daily specials from monday to thursday for $15. Those are fire too. And they give free pads in the bathroom for the womens. Yall should just TamaGO to Tamako~
I had the udon at Tamako and was really impressed by the atmosphere. It’s a very clean, quiet space that feels peaceful despite having a TV on in the background. The staff was friendly and the service was excellent. I loved the flexibility of being able to order through a QR code or with a server. Plus, the free Wi-Fi is a great touch. I’ll definitely be back.
Ordered 2 sets of their set bento meal of Pork & Beef. There is a lot of different food. Besides the main meat dish, there is potato salad, edamame, fried prawn tempura, one piece of Karaage, dumpling with miso soup. The taste is not authentic Japanese and both the meat are tough. Disappointed as I heard this restaurant used to supply bento sets to Japanese school as expectations seems not met.
Nice small Jap restaurant. Food generally ok for the price. I like the okonomiyaki, nice!
I’ve been going to Tamako Meal quite often, and I’ve finally decided not to gatekeep it anymore—good food is meant to be shared! Their homely Japanese dishes are always so comforting, but the real standout is the bento ❤️ It comes packed with a variety of ingredients, each offering its own taste and texture, making every bite a little treat for the senses.. If you’re craving authentic, heartwarming Japanese comfort food, this is the place to go!
