Sum Dim Sum

Here on a public holiday with my family and it was pretty crowded, actually a bit understaffed. Food was not bad. The chicken feet was not well braised, a bit hard. Also missed out on our orders but it was my children's favourite dish and they were waiting for it, so we had no choice but to wait 15-20min for them to steam it. Wait staff not able to communicate well in English nor Chinese too and there were some miscommunication which they rectified quickly. Overall still nice food and my parents enjoyed.

A very comfortable place to have dim sum! I don't think Sum Dim Sum would lose to the famous Swee Choon that's located right opposite. This place is well-lit, air-conditioned, and is extremely clean. The staff is also very polite. No wonder this place has 4.7 stars. Keep it up! I will come back again.

Food was great with decent portion. Prawn paste chicken was flavourful, crispy and juicy. Scallop siew mai was nice with generously prawn fillings inside. Pork chop fried rice was decent but rice was slightly oily. Personally feel that the bedok outlet is better in both food and services. It would be great if they could provide hardcopy menu for reference instead of just menu from phone order.

Only the Pandan Crispy Pork stood out and is worth a mention. Might consider dabao next time instead. The 皮蛋瘦肉粥 was disappointing. It contained salted egg, which made the porridge overly salty and not the style I expect for 皮蛋瘦肉粥. I could barely find or taste any lean pork—only one thin slice was spotted. The dominant flavours came from salted egg and ikan bilis rather than 瘦肉. The rest of the dishes were just so-so. When compared to competitors along Jalan Besar Road, this place falls short, especially when the pricing is taken into consideration. Overall, the setup feels more like a restaurant than a traditional dim sum place, which may not appeal to those looking for an authentic dim sum experience. One odd touch: an hourglass is placed on the table when the order is made. It already feels gimmicky, but what made it worse was the waitress moving the hourglass to the center of the table and placing the food at the edge instead. It honestly makes you wonder—which is more important to the restaurant: the food, or the hourglass?

We randomly found this restaurant during our trip in Singapore. The restaurant was quite small. And I recommend you to make a reservation before you go to the restaurant. We ordered pandan crispy pork bun, egg tart, pan fried carrot cake, char siew bao, siew mai, and wonton dry noodles. We loved their wonton dry noodles because it’s so good, the texture of the noodle was good. Their pandan crispy pork bun so delicious, it’s very fragrant and the filling was very good. Their pandan crispy rest of menus that we ordered were okay. The staff were very fast and nice.
