Dinner buffet . Low quality, totally not worth the money (even with the discount given to hotel guest). Non existent service Breakfast : also not worth it. Carbs carbs carbs. Very little protein This review is specifically about the dinner buffet. I understand this is mandai. I understand that you intend to take advantage of us being a captive audience. Just don't make it so obvious it's embarrassing. Especially being a Banyan Tree Hotel you should hold yourself to certain standards. The price is not cheap. You pay the same as a 5 star hotel in town or even sentosa, but the quality is far below. (See pics of the food) No carving station. Just mass produced protiens. The beef is a thinly sliced fatty piece of meet fried in kalbi sauce. The cold seafood and salmon +octopus sashimi looks sad . When they place it on the bottom shelf so that you have to bend down to reach, you can tell they are embarrassed about serving it and this is a not a centerpiece. You get ome shriveled and dry prawns on a bottom shelf , some clams shells (can't see the meat). The sashimi is sliced so thinly I mistook it for smoked salmon . Dessert is also so so. My kids love ice cream but they passed on the sad looking plain vanilla and choco flavours which sat lonely in large freezer which could have help more exciting varieties. Then there is the non existent service. Nobody came to clear our plates!! They were much faster during breakfast. At dinner in an almost empty restaurant, wait staff would literally walk pass and not notice the used dishes piled high. Water was also self service, so make you wonder what they spend their time doing.
Went for the breakfast buffet at Planter’s Shed. The variety was decent, with a fairly wide selection of food, and the dishes were replenished extremely quickly. The staff were also friendly throughout the visit. That said, the overall taste was rather underwhelming, with nothing that really stood out as particularly good. Even the crispy bacon mentioned by some other reviewers was not crispy on the day of my visit. I also felt there was a little too much Indian food occupying the hot food warmers compared to the rest of the breakfast selection.
We came for dinner on my wife's birthday! We shared a soba noodle starter, I had the burger and my wife had the butter chicken. The burger was really good! Juicy, perfectly cooked, good quality meat and great peripherals - cheese, bacon, mushroom and l etc. Butter chicken was decent, not the best I've ever had but I am spoiled by a local Delhi butter chicken which is hard to beat. After dinner we were brought the bill and after a short chat we realised we hadn't been told that the buffet actually came with a 25% discount! Realising we weren't told beforehand, the waitress gave us a discount without us even asking, and offered a free cocktail. Excellent, proactive customer service in action. We'll be back (for breakfast)
Planters Shed, Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree: Planters shed plants a down-to-earth glass house impression. We were here for breakfast. Google reviews are punishing – perhaps we were lucky to check in post opening. It was a lavish spread indeed – bakes were the polished best, but I was going for a Super Food protein plate of quinoa, salad, salmon, asparagus, nuts, cheese and eggs. If you’re into healthy, they have good options. Fancy a boozy Sunday brunch? Prosecco is your bubbly headstart. There’s also a kid’s section which we raided their ice cream. One odd observation – the architecture, landscaping and sustainability design of the resort are wind-knockingly stunning and well thought out. Furniture in Planters Shed seem like an after-thought – tables and chairs are downright ugly. The style guide stops right here. #eatstylishtravelstylish
Our family favourite buffet place. Last week we were there to celebrate Mother's Day and once again, their food and service is exceptional. I would like to say a special and big thank you to DES, MARRY & ASHRAFF. Their attitude and friendliness provided our family with a lot of joy and happiness. We will definitely be back again.
