First time at LUSS this evening, and I was totally amazed by the gem! A quiet place (most probably due to a weekday) and a little hide-out that serves excellent food - we tried the chilli crab mantou, hainanese chicken pasta, roast baby back ribs and muah chee! What an unique combination of food! Ordered a red wine Cabernet Sauvignon to pair with the food - very smooth and easy to drink. And since it is a whiskey place, we gave it a shot to try the whiskey as recommended by the server - Tomatin 12Y0 Bourbon & Sherry Cask. It was smooth and easy to drink, either neat or on the rock! And to add on to the surprise - we were presented a dessert of lava cake and vanilla ice-cream (and a candle!) to mark our anniversary! What a surprise and nice gesture of LUSS! Spoke to the owner, Joanne before we left and we really appreciate the hospitality and service! Do send our thanks and regards to the Indian lady who served us (didn't manage to get her full name). You guys really made out occasion a special and memorable one! π We wish you the very best of business and we look forward to coming back soon to try other dishes! π π
We found the following whisky pairings worked especially well with the dishes.β¨β’β¨LUSS Fashionedβ¨Concocted with Tomatin 12YO Bourbon & Sherry Casks, Angostura & Orange Bitters, and Demerara. We decided to enjoy this on its own, as the bitters profile is not easy to pair with savoury dishes.β¨β’β¨Cadenhead Deanston 10YO Hainanese Chicken Pasta Deanstonβs light fruity notes allow the Hainanese Chicken Pasta to stand out. Hainanese flavours did not disappoint. In fact, it is one of LUSSβs signature dishes.β¨β’β¨Tomatin 12YO Sherry Cask Air-Fried Spiced Cauliflower Florets Guinness Braised Wagyu Beef Cheeks Tomatinβs dried fruit and nutty notes complement the beef cheeks very well. Beef cheek itself was fork-tender.β¨β’β¨Lagg Kilmory Edition (Peat) 4 Cheese Pizza Strong cheese flavours overwhelmed both the Tomatin and Deanston. Only Laggβs peat profile was able to pair well with it. Instead of overpowering the pizza, it added another layer to the cheeseβs funky notes.β¨β’β¨Aperol Negroni Chilli Crab Mantou Aperol Negroni acts as both a cooling element and a flavour enhancer for the chilli crab. If youβre not careful, you might finish the drink very quickly.β¨β’β¨@cheechin.chew on Instagram
Luss Restaurant & Bar at Portsdown Road is a hidden gemβquietly tucked away but truly worth the visit. Great whisky selection, from well-curated flights to standout bottles like Springbank. Bar snacks were excellent tooβespecially the chicken wings and air-fried cauliflower. Special thanks to Travis and Ravis for being fantastic hostsβfriendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about whisky. Will definitely be back.
Went to have dinner. Service was good and the food well prepared. The ribs are not falling off the bone tender but had a nice bite. And the seasoning was nicely done. The menu is definitely well curated. A little noisy due to our happy neighbours but that is all right. A nice cosy place that I can while my time away if needed in future.
My husband and I went to this place for dinner. We had beer with the Samosa and Garlic Chilli Prawns and shared the famous Hainanese Chicken Pasta. Prawns and chicken pasta were delicious. Nice ambience and can chitchat. The whisky menu was 15 times thicker than the food menu. Should be very good for whisky lovers.
