Returned to this spot to give their dinner menu a try, after a wonderful lunch experience. Service staff were friendly and made us feel very welcomed. Their extensive knowledge of the menu was impressive, and they’re more than happy to answer all our questions. The food was a true reflection of African cuisine, with each dish offering a unique and exciting flavor profile. The plantains were cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of crispiness. The stews were rich and flavorful, with a perfect balance of spices. Even the Swahili fried dough, which was decent but not outstanding, was made up for by the delicious homemade soft-serve ice cream. As an African restaurant, I had high expectations for bold flavors, but what I loved was how each dish was expertly crafted to be humble, straightforward, and comforting. The drinks menu was equally impressive, with a wide selection of mocktails that were both creative and refreshing. What really stood out, however, was the attention to detail and the exceptional service. We had mentioned that it was a birthday celebration when we made the reservation, and without any reminders, the staff surprised us with a beautifully decorated dessert. It was a truly thoughtful touch that made the experience even more special.

@eats.withshan African flavours for dinner at Kafe Utu Stt Happy hour drinks first (6pm-8pm) - had Aperol Spritz + house white at $12 each πŸ’ŽZanzibar curry goat ($32) The spice was amazing, and the goat meat was super tender and soft. Paired with their AMAZING coconut rice (and that's coming from someone who's not even a rice person). πŸ’ŽLamb samosa ($20) Perfectly crispy on the outside with generous minced lamb inside. Tasted fresh and cooked really well. πŸ’ŽSunset cauliflower ($17) Huge portion! Soft, well-roasted cauliflower, flavoured beautifully with a special mixed dressing. Cozy space - we stayed until almost closing time (around 10pm+). Super friendly staff and very helpful when choosing from the menu (which was honestly the hardest part Will definitely be back to try more dishes!

Went here on a Sunday evening (no reservation) and really enjoyed it. The place was busy so we had to sit at a sharing table (not bad). Service was quick and the menu items are quite unique yet familiar (hard to explain). We really really enjoyed the food. The spices and presentation was very elegant and casual. The decor was so inviting and makes you really get into the spirit of Africa. I think the artwork / pictures were my favorite but the food was also quite amazing. The portions are not huge but big enough to enjoy it even share a few dishes if you see in a group. I think reservations would be ideal so that you don’t get disappointed but it seems possible to walk in as well. We highly recommend you go if you are open to slightly different type of food…honestly there was nothing to unique so it’s a perfect option.

Service here is warm and welcoming, the wait staff are genuinely interested to recommend things for me to try since I am trying African food for the first time. Everything we got was tasty and sparked a conversation on how good it was. We came to celebrate our birthdays and got two nicely sleeved polaroids taken of us to commemorate the get together. The drinks were also creatively named!

First time trying African cuisine. We ordered the cauliflower appetizer which was delicious! It was a generous serving so that was great. Fried chicken was yummy as well, with one of the spiciest dips I have tried as a southeast Asian. It was awesome, never knew African cuisine had such a kick of spice in the food. Love the groundnut chicken curry, subtle hint of groundnut and not spicy at all actually. The chocolate dome was delicious as well. Fresh fruits and quality chocolate.πŸ‘Œ Cocktails were good as well. Prices are definitely on the higher side. Kudos to friendly staff and good food.
