Izakaya 95

Had a lovely dinner at Punggol Settlement with my SO and friends, and we chose Izakaya 95 居九五 for the night 🍶✨ We ordered quite a feast: • Salted Surume Ika – lightly salted grilled squid that was chewy and snacky, perfect to nibble on. • Kagoshima Buta Teriyaki – black pork belly grilled over open flame and glazed till beautifully caramelised. Sticky, juicy, and absolutely delicious. • Smoked Duck Skewers – nicely executed, tender inside with a lovely smoky aroma. • Yaki Udon – classic stir-fried udon, simple and comforting. • Asari Ramen – clam ramen with a broth that started off garlicky and finished deeply umami. Loved how the noodles soaked up all that flavour, and the clams were big and juicy. • Niniku Fried Rice – Japanese-style garlic fried rice that hits you with fragrance the moment it touches your mouth. Savoury and addictive. Overall, the food here is really top class. Prices are slightly on the higher side, but definitely worth every penny for the quality and flavours. The food was great and there was a wide variety of options available. I especially liked the pork bone broth for the hotpot and the grilled pork belly. The atmosphere was lively, although the outermost tables are a little dark. Overall, the experience was good!

izakaya tucked on the second floor; dining experience would have been better if only the trees don't block the view to the sea. wide spread of dishes and good service.

I understand everyone is trying to make a living, but charging premium prices for zero-effort food is honestly impressive in the worst possible way. I wouldn’t mind paying this much if there was any quality or value involved. Sadly, there isn’t. Other than the garlic fried rice and clam soup (which were merely acceptable), everything else was aggressively mediocre. The skewers were dry, bland, and somehow all tasted exactly the same despite being different items. The so-called tofu dish deserves a special mention 3 taupok with teriyaki sauce and bonito flakes, dressed up and sold like some artisanal creation for $9.00. Absolute scam behaviour. Then there’s the highlight: $10 for one tiny prawn. Yes, one. I ordered a single piece just to test the waters, turns out that was the smartest decision of the night. Still walked away $90 poorer but significantly wiser. Service was forgettable, which honestly fits the theme. And suddenly, it makes perfect sense why this place is empty while everywhere else nearby is packed. The photos and expectations? Miles away from reality. Do yourselves a favour and go to the skewer place (SMAC) next door instead. We were so appalled by Izakaya 95 that we actually went for a second round of dinner. We spent one-third of the money, got the same amount of food, and it tasted about 1,000 times better.

it was very fantastic! the food was really good and affordable given the portions, and all of it was really flavorful and just delicious! i cant stress enough how much i truly enjoyed my meal and experience here, and i would absolutely bring my friends and family back again!
