Butter & Spice Katong has quickly become one of my favorite spots for a relaxed meal with bold, comforting flavors. From the moment we walked in, the warm interiors and easy hospitality set the tone for a lovely evening. We started with the fish fingers, and they were a fantastic opener—crisp on the outside, flaky and well-seasoned inside, with just the right amount of spice to wake up the palate. Alongside, we ordered the chicken malai kebab, which turned out to be an absolute standout. Creamy, mildly spiced, and beautifully charred at the edges, it had that melt-in-the-mouth texture that's hard to get right, but the kitchen here nailed it. For mains, the egg briyani was a comforting, fragrant delight—each grain of rice infused with masala, and the boiled eggs cooked just enough to soak in the flavor without losing their texture. It's the kind of briyani that reminds you of home-style cooking, generous with spice but never overwhelming. We also tried the paneer 65, a vegetarian dish that more than held its own on a table full of meat dishes. Tangy, spicy, and perfectly crisp, it had that addictive quality where you keep going back for "just one more piece." It paired wonderfully with the tangy lime juice we ordered, which was fresh, not overly sweet, and the ideal palate cleanser between bites of all that spice. What stood out most was the consistency—every dish felt carefully made, not rushed, and the flavors were balanced rather than masked by heat alone. Portions were generous, prices reasonable, and the service attentive without being intrusive. Butter & Spice Katong is a great choice whether you're craving a quick comforting meal or want to introduce friends to vibrant Indian flavors. We'll definitely be back to try more from the menu. Highly recommended!
A 4.8 rating & an Indian food craving — naturally, this was a must-visit. Having dined at countless restaurants across both north/south indian cuisines, I came in with high expectations. Let’s start on a high note: the customer service was excellent. Staff were warm, smiley, and genuinely attentive — checking in throughout the meal, explaining dishes confidently, and even upselling with ease. That energy made the experience feel welcoming 😊👍🏼 Drinks! mango lassi and chai masala were both pleasant — well-balanced, no complaints there. Now, the food... Do note though that taste is subjective — what didn’t work for my palate may well work for yours, so take this with a pinch of salt. 🙂 The onion pakora immediately raised an eyebrow. Ive eaten many good pakora & it's always goldenly crispy with each onion strand coated in a thin, light batter. What arrived was thick (pancake-like) and starchy, quite far from what you’d expect. The seasoning of the batter itself was actually decent, which made the execution all the more puzzling. The prawn tandoori was charred for sure had that telltale injected, overly springy texture and the seasoning was overwhelmingly salty, drowning out natural sweetness from the prawns. The chicken tikka was charred, passable but flat and one-dimensionally salty, with just enough tang to keep it from being entirely forgettable. The holy butter chicken was creamy and buttery with a gentle sweetness. But the gravy lacked the deep, burnished red you’d expect from a good hand with kashmiri red chilli powder, which gives butter chicken its iconic colour and mild fruity warmth. the spice components just didn’t quite come together. The garlic butter naan had a nice airy texture but lacked that essential ghee-forward richness. The chilli cheese naan however was genuinely good — well-filled and flavourful, the standout of the bread basket. Overall, the front-of-house team is brilliant and deserves full credit & to give the benefit of doubt, maybe the taste of the food just didn’t match my palate. Take this review with a pinch of salt and see for yourself. 🙏🏼
The food here was delicious. The chicken cheese kebab was surprisingly juicy and flavorful, and the eggplant curry paired perfectly with the naan- so good as a dip. Really enjoyed the meal overall. We definitely will visit again.
Had lunch at Butter & Spice yesterday with my wife and walked out very happy. I’ve known the owners for a while through a city establishment and have been to one of their other outlets before, and I’ve ordered plenty from their East Coast spot, though yesterday was my first time actually sitting down there. The food was excellent across the board — the Chicken Dahiwala in particular is a standout and worth coming back for on its own — but what really stood out was the service. Genuinely one of the friendliest, most welcoming restaurants I’ve been to in Singapore, the kind of place where you can tell the warmth comes from the top down. We’ll definitely be back, and I’d happily recommend it to anyone looking for proper Indian food done well.
Food is ah-ma-zing. The chicken 65 is incredibly crispy and the best chicken kebab was to die for. Super juicy and tender, me and my husband ate it all up before we even got through our naans. Got the tikka masala as well which was really flavourful, and not too spicy (though uou could probably ask them to adjust the spice to your liking). Paneer kulcha naan was also great, but the garlic roti was a little dry. I thought it was garlic butter originally but it was actually just garlic pieces on top. Only gripe I had was that they were playing baby music for a family who came before us and continued it until they left. It was very nice of them but it was mildly difficult to sit through baby shark a couple times...
