Modelled after Mark Wein’s original concept Basil Pork rice store in Thailand, I have to say I was skeptical until I tried it personally. The meat is well cooked and flavorful plus the fluffy rice, crispy egg, all these made the real experience. Good job standing out in a crowded market. Now, on the flip side, the store’s service needs to improve. I had personally encountered two incidents of wrongly/badly packed orders. (e.g. ordered a double egg but received an egg white, yes you are reading this correctly, a single egg white). The other incident involved a wrong item for what I ordered (ordered beef but received chicken, the former is a costlier option). These are real bummers to what is a promising newcomer.

Probably my favourite Thai Basil Pork Rice in SG. They’ve got several outlets across SG now, and I visited this one on a weekday in the early evening at about 17:00, and there wasn’t much crowd. I ordered 2 Thai Basil Pork Rice for my girlfriend and I, and they let you customise your spiciness level and how many fried eggs you want to go with your rice. We chose Level 2, which has an adequate kick of spiciness from the dried Birds Eye chilli’s they fry the minced pork with, which was cooked in a flavourful soy/fish sauce. Their default spice level is level 3, which packs quite a strong but still bearable punch. Anything above that is quite unbearable and not for the faint of heart, but a must try if you love chilli. We normally have our rice with 2 fried eggs, which they fry the egg whites and yolk separately, resulting in a crispy sunny side up, that has a very runny and gooey yolk, but this evening we indulged in a Quadruple egg. Their fried egg really brings the whole dish together, allowing you to eat the yolks whole or to mix them all into the pork and rice, creating a rich, golden gooey mouthful of flavours. We’ve also tried their Basil Beef rice at another outlet once, but that wasn’t nearly as delicious, so we didn’t try that here. Overall, stick to the Pork Basil Rice, and you can’t go wrong. Totally addictive. We eat this like cai png at this rate. Would totally recommend. Free upsize for this review too btw!

The egg was cooked to perfection - with the yolk oozing out when you pierce the membrane. Perfect! The meat was a tad salty, but it tasted great on the whole. Situated next to the river, this place has good vibes and plenty of seating. Highly recommended. Value for money. Thumbs up!

This stall is situated in a small coffeeshop with fewer than 10 stalls. For the basil rice, you have a choice of minced pork or chicken with fried eggs. You can have a choice of 2 to 4 eggs. I had the minced pork with 2 fried eggs and spice level 2 which is the least spicy. The basil pork and the fried eggs are very good but it was super spicy. The next time, I will order for level 1 which is non spicy. I also had the moo ping which was very good. Service here is friendly.

I had a very bad experience. Communication was extremely difficult because the staff could not speak proper English. I could barely understand him, and he clearly did not understand my order either. I was still placing my order and had NOT confirmed anything yet. I asked whether I could get an upsize in exchange for a Google review. He told me pork belly cannot be upsized for a review, and then said he had already proceeded with my order. When I tried to change it, he told me it was not possible. How can you process an order when I haven’t even confirmed it? This is completely unacceptable. Please make sure your staff communicate properly and do not proceed with orders without clear customer confirmation.
