Innovation and fusion just for the sake of it. I don’t get the high ratings at all. I appreciate the effort the chefs have taken to put their own spin on familiar favourites - but they have not seemed to have gotten the balance right. - The Tom Yum mussels were too sweet and tasted more like sweet curry mussels; they lacked tang and any essence of Tom Yum. - The Kailan and Bacon was alright - probably the best dish. But felt a bit greasy. - For the Curry Rice, I think they were too heavy handed on the ?star anise. And the liquorice-like flavor was too overpowering. The curry could also have been less watery. - The Cold Bee Hoon was also quite alright, though I think the bee hoon could have been a bit more al dente; it was really too mushy. I also felt the service was not up to standard. Staff members seemed to avert eye contact and would rather chat amongst themselves. For good local fusion, I’d recommend places like Scaled by Ah Hua Kelong and Naked Finn. 808 Eating House should focus on getting its basics right. We won’t be returning.
The food here is so delicious. Our family of four had the kaya toast, duck fat financiers, chicken curry rice, flower crab sandwich and tom yum mussels. Every dish had the right amount of richness to it and we polished off every morsel without feeling like it was too heavy/jelak. For the drinks, my children loved the mocktails and the coffee was really nice too. Raphael's (I hope I am spelling his name right) service was excellent. He gave great recommendations, was super friendly (my children called him "the friendly waiter") and was attentive (he gave my daughter an extra napkin when she was battling the delicious mussels). Will definitely come back again! What a gem of a place!
First visit here, and my family and I were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Every dish was fantastic — flavorful and beautifully presented in a way that made the meal feel truly special. I especially loved the duck fat financier, flower crab sandwich, and tom yum mussels. Even better than the food was the warm and attentive service. The staff patiently made recommendations for us, refilled our water several times without us having to ask, and changed our plates automatically. Such attentive service is hard to come by these days. And the barista surprised me with a refreshing ice orange espresso! Just what is needed on a hot afternoon. I look forward to go back and try all their dishes. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for Asian cuisine with a twist.
I've been here twice, the first time with family on New Years' Eve (this is a super belated review) for lunch, and the second time just this last Saturday for dinner with a friend. I tried a whole variety of dishes across both visits, and while all were fantastic, I would have to say that the standout were: - For starters: Kailan & Bacon (fantastic, flavour profile is similar to roasted brussel sprouts), Green-eyed Squid (squid was extremely tender and the sauce really went well with it) and the Duck Fat Financiers (the slight sweetness of the financier and citrus zest went really well with the savory mousse) - For mains: Mouth-watering Chicken & Tom Yum Mussels. Especially for the mussels, they were extremely fresh (which is sadly a rarity in Singapore, had so many meals with mussels that were not fresh) and it went extremely well with the refreshing and rich Tom Yum mussels. - For sides: The Cold Bee Hoon is highly recommended. It is pre-mixed with lime juice and is covered with dried shrimp, so it makes for a refreshing and savory bite. As for service, it was fantastic both times. My first visit was a walk-in one on New Years' Eve, and the staff were able to accommodate my family and I with seats outside the restaurant. For the second visit, we were seated indoors and the staff were again extremely friendly and attentive. Service was fantastic overall. We had asked for recommendations, and the recommendations provided were all great.
A very convivial place to relax, chill and enjoy the wonderful variety of food, especially the starters. We ordered everything from the starter menu, except for 2 items, coz w were too stuffed already. Service was exceptional, and we love Riley, cos she was very attentive, friendly and all smiles all the time. Good job, everyone
