WOW Porto - The Cultural District

This was a nice offering of museums and wine-related tastings. We added on the Option to Taylor's winery tour for an extra 10 Euro. Well worth it, probably the best part. The Pink Palace was a fun, kitschy, instagram-friendly location. I was most looking forward to the Cork museum but it was closed for renovations. If you are a serious wine connoisseur, skip this and go directly to Taylor's. If you are interested in learning about the history of winemaking in the region , Rose wines and chocolate, then this is your tour. It is a lot and I recommend splitting it over 2 days. Also, the restaurants inside WoW are overpriced. Walk a short distance to other nearby restaurants for a better value.

€30 for the tours. Self guided is okay, lots of information about the wine process locally and in general. Ends with wine tastings of 1 of each white, red, port. Very excellent tastings presentation. Tour of vessels is mostly Roman cups but up to modern day glasses. Museum guided tour, apx 75min long. To us it was informative yet still excessive. Only a few places to sit and most people's feet are exhausted. With already 3 hours+ spent here we didn't have time for the included tour chocolate samples or to sit and enjoy the courtyard with drinks. Had to hustle out to our next travel commitments. To be honest our opinion would be best to save your €30 euro each and just go about the shops and winery tasting separately at each. The WoW intention is good but just too time consuming and over informative. And have more time at your own pace and relax in courtyard with a few drinks also.

Amazing museum experience! That was one of the best museums I have ever visited. I chose a day pass with entrance to 5 museums, although I finally visited only 4. The most interesting one for me was the museum of Porto regions across ages. The museum is very interactive and shows the history in the most interesting way. I learnt a lot about the history of Porto and Portugal. The next museum we visited was the wine experience museum. It was also very informative and interactive with the delicious wine tasting at the end. Our server was very informative and most kind, just amazing! Then we went to the pink palace experience, that was a lot of fun, although the wine stations could be a bit further away as tasting 5 different roses one by one is quite fast here. But generally the experience was great! We loved it. The last museum we visited was the chocolate experience. It was also very informative and interesting. We enjoyed the chocolate tasting and the possibility to win more chocolate in the machines. A great experience again! We finished our visit to the cultural district by dining in one of the restaurants. The food was amazing and the views superb. I highly recommend visiting all the museums! It was one of the best museum experience I have ever had!

This really is a good attraction to visit in Vila Nova de Gaia on the south side of the river in Porto. The best value in my view is the 5 museum ticket for €30. This gives you access to 5 museums including the Pink Palace rose wine museum and the chocolate museum. Also included is a wine tasting session. It's really an allday place as it has excellent restaurants for lunch or dinner and the museums do take some time to get around. I would not buy tickets online before you visit just turn up and buy onsite, the price is really the same and you can then change your plans if you need too. Some sites offer tickets that say you have 48 hours to complete your visit. This is true but you must start your tour on the day that you indicate or you will lose your money unless you remember to change your tickets before the deadlines. So just buy at the venue on the day you wish to visit.

Amazing place to visit in Porto/Gaia! World of Wine is much more than a museum – it’s a whole cultural district with great restaurants, wine experiences and incredible views over the Douro River and the city of Porto. The exhibitions are very interactive and interesting, especially if you want to learn more about Portuguese wine, cork and local culture. The area is beautifully restored from old port wine cellars and the atmosphere is fantastic both during the day and at sunset. Definitely a must-visit spot when in Porto.
