Tanuki Raw @ Orchard Central

I came here without a reservation and managed to get an outdoor seat, which wasn’t too hot in the early evening. The staff were friendly and nice. They ushered us to our seats and explained that the indoor seating was either reserved or had a short turnaround time. For a better dining experience, they suggested that we take the outdoor seating instead. We had the Truffle Yakiniku Rice and the chilled Yuzu Udon noodles. The beef on the rice bowl was well cooked, around medium-well, while the beef in the udon was more medium and some pieces were a little below medium but raw and slight chewy. The rice was fragrant and tasty, but the yuzu noodles were very soggy even though they were served chilled, which we did not really prefer. The noodles were so soft and soggy that we could taste the flour, although the Yuzu flavour itself was decent and refreshing. You can choose a separate dressing for the truffle fries, which was served generously. The fries were well fried with a light coating and remained crispy even after cooling down for some time. The salmon slices were fresh, served chilled, and worth the price.

Had a great dinner at tanuki raw. The signature dish is truffle yakiniku and foie gras truffle yakiniku and I tried this dish call superstar roll. Service was attentive without being pushy, and the open-kitchen atmosphere made the experience more fun. Prices are definitely on the higher side, but the quality matched it. I’d come back for special occasions.

With many bad reviews, we still decided to give it a try and honestly no regrets. The chirashi bowl was fresh and rather generous for the price. Giant pork tonkatsu was moist and not over fried served with Japanese curry that was spicy and rich in flavor. Service staff were polite and ready to serve with a smile. Overall experience was great!

Got the weekday lunch special + birthday treat, which is a good deal compared to their ala carte price. Servers were courteous and friendly. Sashimi tasted ok. The chilled yuzu udon had a very light taste, would prefer it to be more distinct.

Been patronising tanuki raw for years and always happy they’ve kept their food standard. Just wanted to give a shoutout and thank you for the wonderful crew for coming to check on the doneness of my beef and offered to change my onsen egg to Tamago as I’m heavily pregnant. I appreciate it!
