Excellent food. Certainly not cheap, but I felt the quality and quantity matched the price. Ate here two separate nights over which I tried the bone-in pork chop, 24oz prime rib, grilled vegetable kabob, pioneer house salad, fresh water shrimp (addition, not meal), and mixed berry cobbler. The cocktails were well made, the by-glass wine selections seemed good, and there was an extensive wine bottle selection.

First time in Ketchum and the Pioneer Saloon (or 'The Pio' as the locals say) lived up to every bit of the hype! Stepping inside feels like a trip back in time—dim lighting, authentic western decor, and a bustling, historic atmosphere that perfectly captures the Idaho spirit. Our server Pablo was magnificent—attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and really made us feel welcome. We started with the prime rib, which was perfectly aged and incredibly tender. You absolutely cannot skip the 'Jim Spud'—it’s a massive loaded baked potato that could be a meal on its own. Just a heads up: they don't take reservations, so arrive early (around 4:30 PM) if you want to snag a table without a long wait at the bar. A must-visit Sun Valley staple!

Had dinner at The Pioneer Saloon last night and it was SO good! Matt, the bartender took excellent care of me throughout the evening. The dinner salad was very large and lots of variety of vegetables in the salad. I had the Prime Rib and baked potato, and the flavor of the Prime Rib was amazing. A great dining experience and I would definitely go back there!

★★★★★ Pioneer Saloon is exactly the kind of place you hope to find when visiting Ketchum. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and full of authentic Idaho character. From the historic décor and Western charm to the lively energy of the dining room, it feels like a place where locals and visitors naturally come together. The food was outstanding. Everything was cooked perfectly, served generously, and packed with flavor. You can tell they take pride in quality ingredients and consistency. Whether you’re stopping in after a day on the mountain or meeting friends for dinner, the menu offers something satisfying for everyone. The staff was friendly, attentive, and helped make the entire experience enjoyable. Between the incredible food, unique atmosphere, and rich local history, it’s easy to see why Pioneer Saloon has become such a beloved Ketchum institution. If you’re in the Sun Valley area, this is a must-visit restaurant. I’ll definitely be back.

Our group was in town for a ski trip and we were really looking forward to trying the Pioneer Saloon. Unfortunately, we never actually got to experience it because our interaction at the hostess stand left a lot to be desired. We were given a buzzer at 4:00 PM and were told there would be a wait. By 9:30 PM, it still hadn’t gone off. During those 5.5 hours, we ended up going to the Casino Bar and The Cellar for dinner instead. After a great meal and excellent service at The Cellar, we kindly returned the buzzer to what was, at that point, a mostly empty Pioneer restaurant. Ketchum is a great town with some very kind folks. Hopefully Pioneer can hire one of them to improve their front-of-house experience.
