Museum Tavern

A fantastic historic pub with loads of character. It’s amazing to enjoy a drink in one of the oldest pubs in this part of London, dating back to 1723. The atmosphere is warm and authentic, with beautiful traditional interiors that make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. A perfect spot for a pint and a taste of London’s history.

It’s incredible to think this tavern has been around for over 300 years—it’s actually older than the British Museum right across the street! The interior has a wonderfully authentic, historical vibe. We came for the fish and chips, and it was easily one of the best I’ve ever had. The chicken and bacon sandwich was also delicious. Tip: If you’re visiting for lunch, they open for drinks at 11:00 am, but the kitchen doesn't start serving food until 12:00 pm."

The food here was great. I had the chicken Kiev and it was very well made and tasty. I enjoyed the atmosphere in here and it is conveniently located across from The British Museum. The food came out quickly and the service was good.

Absolutely banging Sunday Roast. Someone’s clearly put effort into that gravy, the veg was sweet and delicious, generous amount of beef, server kindly brought me some creamy and spicy fresh horseradish upon request - this is how a roast should be, simply cannot fault it.

After more than two hours wandering through the endless halls of the British Museum, we were starving – and thankfully, we didn’t have to walk far. Directly opposite waits The Museum Tavern, a proper London pub with history in its walls and beer in its veins. By now, fish & chips and burgers had been our standard pub companions, but here we decided to try something different. The steak pie turned out to be a revelation: hearty, rich, and exactly what you need after too much culture and not enough food. Paired with perfectly poured pints, it was the fuel we didn’t know we needed. The beer selection deserves special mention – wide enough that we never had to drink the same beer twice. Each round brought a new taste, each pint a new highlight. The Museum Tavern proves once again that London pubs aren’t just about eating and drinking – they’re part of the journey. After history on the museum’s walls, we found history in a glass, and a new dish to add to our pub tour memory: steak pie forever.
