issho izakaya @ Marina One

Decided to try this place after work on a Friday as it was a bit late. The inside seating is beautifully decorated and was almost full. A few tables outside were occupied. Ordered some skewers, salmon don, beef DIY hotplate and tempura. The prices are similar to those popular Japanese restaurants in SG but the quality and service seems better, although I am certainly no expert in Izakaya. The tenant discount made everything super worth it.

Located deep inside the rather fascinating Marina One, this is a Japanese-style izakaya that feels a little mysterious in more ways than one. I’m not sure whether it’s Japanese-owned or not, but it certainly isn’t trying to be a traditional neighborhood izakaya. The design is modern, with both indoor and outdoor seating available. On the day we visited, Singapore was doing what Singapore does best—being incredibly hot—so we happily escaped into the air-conditioned indoor section. The interior is stylish and comfortable, with dark wood tones, black accents, and a sleek bar-like setup that gives the place a relaxed, contemporary feel. The menu is extensive, and we ordered several dishes to share. Everything was enjoyable, although if someone asked me, “Was it authentic Japanese food?” my honest answer would probably be, “That’s a surprisingly difficult question.” That said, the chicken wings were excellent. In fact, they were so good that they single-handedly improved my opinion of everything else on the table. Sometimes all it takes is one great dish. Ordering is done via QR code, which seems to be the law of the land these days. Personally, I still belong to the generation that enjoys ordering from an actual human being, but that’s just me. A plus point: drinks arrived quickly, which is always appreciated. Would I rush back? Probably not. Would I say no if friends suggested coming here again? Also no. The staff were genuinely friendly, the atmosphere was pleasant, and overall I had a perfectly enjoyable experience. One final note: the building itself deserves a mention. Marina One feels like something designed by an architect who was given unlimited coffee and a science-fiction movie marathon. It’s futuristic, slightly surreal, and oddly impressive all at the same time. So while the food may have left me debating the definition of “Japanese cuisine,” the chicken wings and the setting made the visit worthwhile.

They had reasonably priced omakase at $88++. Quality was good and I like that they were flexible enough to customise certain omakase dishes to our dietary restrictions. Aside from Omakase, they also have à la carte and set menus that are reasonably priced but didn’t get to try. Wouldn’t mind going back as it seems like they have great variety.

The food is very tasty and good quality, Justina told us here about the residence discount. So we come back here again,we are really grateful about the service and everything here. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Had the $68plusplus omakase and 6 sake shots for $1 each. It was very enjoyable. Thoroughly enjoyed every dish
