I am very grateful to Mr Chia, who was my tutor at illume for both Sec 4 English and JC GP. He provided very comprehensive notes and broke down complex concepts in a clear and structured way. More importantly, he always made sure I truly understood the content before moving on, patiently clarifying my doubts and re-explaining concepts whenever needed. This really helped me learn how to approach essays and comprehension strategically. Beyond lessons, he generously offered consultations and took the time to mark my extra practices, always giving detailed and constructive feedback. After marking, I would complete corrections and he would continue reviewing my work and providing further feedback to ensure that I corrected any recurring mistakes and refined my arguments. As a result of his guidance and dedication, I was able to make a significant improvement from a C5 to an A2 for O Level English within 2 months, and later scoring A for both GP Prelims and A Levels. Mr Chia was extremely helpful during lessons when he would go around marking our work and give us feedback on how we could perhaps making our work more evaluative while also sticking closely to the question requirements and in some cases going beyond them to truly impress the marker. His consultations were also helpful in learning where I was going wrong and how i could work on them. Not to mention that the materials given by illum.e were very detailed and structured especially regarding how to answer GP paper 2 questions and also how to structure your body paragraphs for GP paper 1. These materials made it easier to have a more structured thinking during the exam and therefore waste less time panicking in the exam due to my mind going blank. Both the materials given by illum.e and Mr Chia's help were crucial to my improvement from a D during prelims for GP to a B at the 'A' levels

Mr Chia is a passionate and caring teacher who always strives for excellence during his lessons. His strategic lesson curriculum, methodological notes and unique answering techniques and frameworks provide students like myself with clarity and focus in tackling questions. The weekly rotations between Paper 1 and Paper 2 lessons ensure that both aspects of the subject are well covered and with sufficient practices to hone our answering skills.
