Tried the Hunan beef set at First Bowl (Seletar Mall) and it turned out better than expected. The beef was well-seasoned with a good balance of spice and savoury flavours — not overly spicy but definitely flavourful enough to go really well with rice. The set comes with cold cucumber, pickles, and Japanese rice, and the rice is free flow which makes it quite satisfying overall. The cucumber was a nice touch as it helped cut through the oiliness of the dish and kept the meal balanced. Portion-wise it’s decent, and with the drink included, the $15+ price feels fair for a mall setting. Not the cheapest, but a solid and reliable option if you’re craving something hearty and comforting. Would come back again.
The food is really good with unlimited rice and condiments. Super value for money as well with all nett pricing and no service charge. Why would you ever eat at other restaurants with ridiculous 10% svc charge and 9% GST when you can come here? 6th time here and would absolutely visit again!
Came for dinner and ordered the Stewed Beef Brisket with Tomato. The dish was served to my table by the staff the moment my number came up, which was pleasant. The brisket was so tender and flavorful, and the tomato soup so savory, with wedges of tomato inside. And amazingly good when mixed with the rice. The rice and sides (spicy pickled cabbage which was light and opened the appetite, and what seemed to be roasted and deep-fried soy beans) were free flow, which was a nice touch. My friends ordered the stir fried beef, and if you're not a fan of coriander, stay away lol. The only gripe was that it was very cramped. Yes it was packed, but there was almost no space to maneuver. So more than 4 pax, this is not a spot you wanna choose, unless you are willing to sit at different tables.
There's a certain homeliness to the food here that my partner and myself felt very comforting. Passed by this place a couple of times and finally today we decided to give it a shot. On the surface it looks like any other China cuisine but don't let the dishes fool you, from what we tried today, its definitely worth a shot. Oh did i mention a complete meal here plus drinks, side dishes and free flow rice, was just under $44, and for the standard I think thats amazing value. Ok back to the food, we tried the Hunan Beef which was actually very satisfying, for 9 bucks, with a tinge of heat, the beef was tender and the chillis plus spices that were mixed into the claypot made it heavenly. Next we got the prawns stir-fried in vermicelli, unlike other places, the dish here proved to be not only flavourful but the prawns were extremely fresh as well. Topping it off, we had 2 cold side dishes, cucumbers and tofu in mala spice which provided a fantastic contrast to the mains. Perhaps the only thing that we felt didn't exactly match up to the food was the oce lemon tea that had a slightly strange bitter aftertaste. Overall, the food really had a feel good factor, warm with a homecooked kind of vibe that we though was impressive. Will definitely be back to try other dishes.
First time eating at their physical shop, usually will order from food panda. Ordered the fragrant chicken and surprisingly came with other veg ie cauliflower, lotus root.. green peppers.. tofu skin.. the chicken was tender and the dish was flavourful. The cabbage was also very crispy and nice. Portions are actually good for sharing but for one pax it's also ok. Rice is free flow there too. And the food is halal. Good choice for Muslim friends who wishes to eat Chinese food or change of taste. Will visit or order again. 👍
