I recently attended a Chinese New Year luncheon event at Candlenut and was genuinely blown away by the experience. Every dish served was beautifully executed, showcasing the rich and intricate flavours of Peranakan cuisine with remarkable finesse. From the appetisers to the hearty mains such as the Wagyu Beef Rendang and Babi Buah Keluak, each course was thoughtfully prepared and deeply satisfying. I must admit I was a little too shy to take more photographs in front of the other guests, but the food certainly left a lasting impression. The highlight for me, however, was the absolutely delightful Chendol — refreshing, fragrant, and the perfect ending to a memorable meal. I will most certainly return again, this time prepared to savour even more of Candlenut’s outstanding Peranakan offerings.

Visited Candlenut for Mother's Day and had a very lovely experience. The staff were all friendly and warm and I liked the ambience of the place. The tables were very spacious and the distance between tables was good as well. They were offering a sense of privacy that isn't present in many other restaurants nowadays. Food was done well and each dish had an unexpected element to it and made the meal feel very interesting. I especially liked the fish, which was delicate and flavorful.

We made reservations to celebrate our mom’s birthday + Mother’s day and we were not disappointed at all! Ordered the Ngoh Hiang, and Wing Bean Salad to start, followed by the mains - Buah Keluak Fried Rice, Assam Pedas, Beef Rendang, Cincalok Omelette, and the food was really good! Shoutout to Mr Felix who served us and kept us entertained during the meal. He also gave us a bowl of chicken curry and white rice to complete our “Candlenut tasting experience”, and we were truly grateful for it. The meal ended off with a small celebration from Candlenut which prepared for us kuehs in celebration of my mom’s birthday. As a Mother’s day special, they also offered us three chocolate lollies with a special raspberry and buah keluak center! All in all, a very good experience and we were glad to celebrate this occasion at Candlenut 😊

An unforgettable experience at Candlenut. Every detail, from the food to the service, reflected something increasingly rare in hospitality: honesty, authenticity, and genuine care for the guest. True hospitality isn’t about being perfect—it’s about making people feel welcome, valued, and looked after. Thank you to the entire team for reminding us of the power of sincere hospitality and for delivering a dining experience we’ll remember for a long time.”

Decent but not fantastic Michelin 1-star Peranakan food—feels like it’s not cheap enough to compete with affordable restaurants, and not quite premium enough for its price tag (which can be raised to accommodate wagyu beef or other fancier ingredients). Might still be a good tourist option for Michelin star-chasers though—just maybe not the best value.
