A disappointing and underwhelming experience. I was pursued for over a year by Butterfly Media to become a client and having been burnt by other agencies to support lead generation in the past I was initially impressed with the perseverance and assurances. I assumed they thought I was going to make a good client i.e. they were confident that they would get results. Nothing could be further from the truth. I signed a three month contract which was terminated early by me as after investigation the LinkedIn activity happening on my account that formed the basis of the work was doing more harm than good. I managed to negotiate a 15% refund on the total contract value but it still feels like I was ripped off. The lead generation activity cost me about $400 per email addresss and only about half of those leads came close to resembling a good client. Despite what felt like thorough onboarding and understanding during the initial part of the engagement the execution of the work was generic, contracted deliverables were misssed, attention to detail poor and the response to the poor performance defensive and lacked any acknowledgement of responsibility. Their strategy was in principle a good one and I have used it before myself with consulting clients and for my own business but decided to outsource because I honestly thought this Australian based ‘specialist’ would get better results. Alas no - I believe I could have got the work done to a higher standard and for a fraction of the cost by hiring someone on UpWork.
